Read on to find out the most legendary fights in the music industry!
Madonna vs. Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga's story is very similar to Madonna's. Even though the Oscar winner was born in New York, the artists' roots come from Italy. The Big Apple saw them grow and become world idols, but also huge rivals.
It all started when, in 2011, fans pointed out that Born This Way was a plagiarism of Express Yourself. They said that Gaga had copied the image, style, and even childhood problems of the Queen of Pop. Madonna appeared in an interview for ABC and said that Gaga was an inferior person. An episode that started one of the biggest battles of the last decade.
Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta admired the work of the Queen of Pop and had declared herself as another fan, so it was a great disappointment to find out what her idol thought of her. In the Netflix documentary: Five Foot Two, Lady Gaga opened up like never before:
“No matter how much respect I have for her as a performer, I could never wrap my head around the fact that she wouldn't look me in the eye and tell me that I was reductive or whatever."
Over the years, journalists continued to ask Madonna about Lady Gaga, but her responses showed her discontent. The eight-year conflict came to an end when, after the Shadow interpreter won the Oscar for her song in “A Star is Born,” Madonna posted a photo on Instagram embracing Lady Gaga.
They look like "friends" now!
Since the battle with Madonna, the Oscar winner has had no problem responding to those who speak ill of her. The Chainsmokers band said in an interview for Rolling Stone that the song "Perfect Illusion" from Gaga's "Joanne" album sucked. Then the interpreter of “Million Reasons" reacted in this way:
Elthon Jhon vs. Madonna
After knowing the fighting between Madonna and Lady Gaga, Elton John decided to speak out in an interview with DJ Zane Lowe, where he accepted that on many occasions insulted the Queen of Pop, apologizing like never before. The conflict between the composer and the singer of "La Isla Bonita" began in 2004 at Q Awards.
John received the award for the best classical composer, but not before reproaching Madonna for having won an award for best live performance.
"Since when has lip-syncing been live? Sorry about that!"
Miley Cyrus vs. Nicki Minaj
Although the battle between Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj, apparently, began at the 2015 VMAs, their conflict could have another start date. On Halloween 2012, ex Hanna Montana dressed as a video "Stupid Hoe" performer.
When Nicki noted that Taylor Swift's “Bad Blod” was nominated for Video of the Year, wasn't the “Anaconda” case at the VMAs, the rapper was quick to complain. Billy Ray's daughter gave an interview for the NY Times whenshe revealed that she wasn't surprised by Minaj's attitude.
“What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind. It's not very polite”
On night 2015 VMAs' night, Nicki received an award for the best hip-hop video and took the opportunity to try to put Miley Cyrus in her place, but the plans didn't go as she imagined:
But if you believed that their conflict ended, you are wrong! Cyrus performed her hit “Malibu” on the night of the 2017 Grammys, and while the audience was moved by the singer's tears, Nicky Minaj laughed at the performance in front of the cameras.
Taylor Swift vs. Kayne West, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and Nicky Minaj
Ring Ring! It looks like boxing bells is sounding for Taylor Swift, the most controversial artist in the last times! The singer knows how to be the magazine's cover with the conflicts in which she has been involved, and we could say that is the artist with the longest list of archenemies.
An episode that undoubtedly went down in music history occurred on the night of the 2009 VMAs. Kanye West snatched the award from Taylor, claiming that it didn't belong to her, but Beyoncé.
The "Love Story" interpreter meets her worst rival. Kanye didn't take too long to mention her in his song "Famous", saying over and over again that she owes her fame to him.
In 2019, Taylor was forced to start a protest campaign against the obstacles that Scott Borchetta, owner of Big Machine Records, was putting on her.
"Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun just told me that I don't have permission to sing my old songs on television because they claim that would be re-recording my songs before the permission I have to do so next year"
Many artists supported the cause of the "Lover" interpreter. The singer was in the same record company as Justin Bieber's. Hayley's husband published a statement in which he responded to Taylor:
I'm sure Scooter and I would love to talk to you and resolve any conflict, pain, or any feelings that need to be addressed.
Taylor Swift and Katy Perry went from being close friends to rivals for many years. The "Bad Blood" interpreter had revealed, in a Rolling Stone interview, that her former ally envied her. The Californian singer didn't sit with crossed arms and attacked through Twitter:
Taylor was called Regina George, the villain of "Mean Girls". The conflict continued in 2015 when Nicky Minaj spoke out against the Texan singer after their dispute at the VMAs.
Katy shared videos on her social networks dancing "Famous" by Kanye West, while the interpreter of "Love Story" made fun of the Orlando Bloom couple in their presentations. In James Corden's "Carpool Karaoke", the "Roar" singer spoke about the reality of the conflict, she was waiting for Taylor's apology!
However, after Taylor Swift spoke out against her former label and asked for support from her colleagues and fans, Katy Perry didn't hesitate to help her former friend.
Unfortunately, not all the confrontations of pop artists have managed to end on good terms. Do you think there are other arch rivals? Leave your comments!
