On Republic Day, meet the top three Indian hip hop artists

On the most important days for India, we want to honor the three most famous artists of this generation , who have been the pride of their nation for having crossed the barriers of language. Keep reading to know them.  

  • Each January 26th since 1950, India celebrates Republic Day, which marked the moment the Constitution of India was put into effect in that country, forming it into a new Republic.
  • Every year the celebration takes place nationwide with large parades and formal events in which thousands of people participate.
  • This year, due to the covid 19 pandemic, both the parades and the attendance will be sharply reduced for security reasons.
     

On the occasion of this special day for India, it seemed appropriate to introduce the three most popular hip hop artists in this country, who have managed to transcend borders and position themselves globally.


1. Raja Kumary

Svetha Yallapragada Rao is her birth name and her age 35. Raja Kumary was born and raised in the United States, but keeps his Indian identity intact.

You may remember her for having co-written "Centuries" for Fall Out Boy back in 2014. Her hip-pop style makes her one of India's best known faces and in fact in 2019, she was nominated for an MTV Europe Music Award as Best Indian Act.


2. Divine

Divine.


Vivian Fernandes was born in Mumbai and at 30 he has two studio albums, and multiple awards including Best Lyricist in 2020, Musician of the Year, 2018 and Best EDM Artist of the Year in 2015.

His break through song was " Mere Gully Mein" featuring fellow rapper Naezy in 2015.


Divine also worked with Rija Kumary to write their 2018 hit "Roots."


3.Emiway Bantai

Emiway Bantai.


 Bilal Shaikh is one of the best known Indian musicians in the world and is actually credited with having paved the way for other hip hop artists on the Mumbai music scene.

His great musical inspiration is rapper Eminem and his talent is the ability to mix genres and languages in all his songs.

In 2019, the 25-year-old singer and songwriter won the award for best Indian Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards over Raja Kumary.
