At 23, Quil Lemons became the youngest photographer to shoot a cover for Vanity Fair magazine. Lemons wanted to portay Billie Eilish in a more sophisticated new look because the singer, who started her music career as young teen, is growing up.
“I knew Billie wanted to feel more mature to really fit her age, we’ve known her since she was 13 and now she’s 19. That’s a very different person.”
For his fantastic photo shoot with Eilish he worked with a set designer in a studio in Los Angeles creating four amazing sets, dressing them with mirrors and drapes.
When Lemons met Eilish they connected instantly. He asked her how does it feel to have won five Grammys and she jokingly replied how does it feel to be shooting the cover of Vanity Fair? The photographer recalls it was a really fun shoot.
The day he purchased the issue with Eilish’s photograph on the cover was magical. Quil went to Casa Magazines, one of the oldest magazine stores in New York.
Lemons knew that during the pandemic the shop was struggling to keep their doors open so to celebrate the publication of Billie Eilish's cover he grabbed 20 issues!
