Right now, Jungkook from BTS is one of the biggest stars in the world. But do you know about his journey to fame? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. We’ll tell you exactly how Jungkook debuted as a part of BTS when he was only 15 years old. Keep reading below to be amazed by his life story!
Superstar K3 Audition
Jungkook had a strong ambition of becoming a singer ever since he was young. He was a big fan of the solo singer IU and G-Dragon, the leader of Big Bang. These two inspired him to work hard to achieve his dream of performing. So in 2011, when he was only around 13 years old, he auditioned for a program called Superstar K3 (the third season of Mnet’s TV talent show Superstar K).
For the audition, Jungkook performed 2AM’s ‘This Song’. Unfortunately, he was not able to make it onto the actual show. But his performance caught the eyes of major music labels, and he started getting offers to join different companies.
BTS’ label, BigHit (now called HYBE Labels) wasn’t the only option Jungkook had. When BTS appeared in the New Yang Nam Show in 2017, the star revealed:
“After appearing on the show, I received love calls from around seven different agencies.”
‘Love calls’, in the context of the K-pop industry, means phone calls through which companies try to recruit potential singers.
At the time of BTS’ debut, BigHit was a very small company. Fellow BTS members revealed that they saw all the business cards Jungkook had received, and many of the interested companies were much larger than BigHit.
So why did Jungkook come to BigHit? Because of RM! He saw RM perform and instantly decided to join the same company as him. The singer admitted:
“I ended up [at Big Hit] because Rap Monster was so cool.”
After he joined BigHit in 2011, Jungkook worked hard to train himself in singing and dancing. He finally debuted with BTS on 12th June 2013. Their debut song was called ‘No More Dream’. Although BTS was not very popular at that time, all the members put in their blood, sweat and tears to become more successful. Their hard work paid off, and they’ve now become the biggest boy band in the world!
