  • K-pop is divided into generations: the bands of the 90s and early 2000s are called the 1st generation.
  • 2nd generation bands like Super Junior and BIGBANG debuted around 2005 and increased the popularity of Korean music at home and abroad.
  • BTS, Seventeen and EXO are all 3rd generation bands that came around after 2010.
  • The 4th generation of K-pop began in 2018. In this article, you'll find new 4th generation boy bands.

1) 'Drunk-Dazed' by Enhypen

“I feel it, my head’s in a daze, daze, daze / I’m addicted, I replay, play, play”

Enhypen was formed after the survival TV show I-LAND and debuted on 20th November 2020. Drunk-Dazed is the title of their 2nd EP, Border: Carnival, which was released on 26th April 2021. It landed on both the Billboard Global and World Digital Song Sales charts. Enhypen is a pop-rock song that shows the hypnotic excitement of being part of a carnival—which represents the new world the boys are experiencing as idols.

2) 'Inception' by ATEEZ

“As if I’ve dreamed in a dream, I’m lost looking for you”

ATEEZ debuted on 24th October 2018. Inception was released on 29th July 2020 as the lead single of their 5th EP, Zero: Fever Part 1. It's a melodic song that reflects something unattainable, like the movie inception, where you are dreaming inside a dream. The band tried a new style of music for this track and did it so well that there was a surge in their popularity. Inception peaked at no. 9 on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart. It’s a song that shows ATEEZ’s diverse charms, so we’re certain you’ll love it (but don’t blame us if you keep singing it afterward!)

3) 'Can't You See Me?' by Tomorrow X Together (TXT)

“My heart incinerated, come and feel me, feel me
Oh, can’t you see me?
My friends don’t understand me, no”

Tomorrow X Together, or TXT, caused a stir before debuting on 4th March 2019 because it was the first group formed by Bighit (now HYBE Labels) after BTS. The band soon established their swag and original sound.  Can’t You See Me? is the title track of their EP The Dream Chapter: Eternity, released on 18th May 2020. This song talks about friendships, and the choreography reflects the fights one might have with their BFFs. The song charted at no. 2 on the Billboard World Song Sales chart. It’s the perfect way to join the world of TXT. We’re sure you’ll quickly be calling yourself a MOA (the band's fandom) afterward.

4) 'Back Door' by Stray Kids

Authorized personnel only here back door”

Stray Kids debuted on 25th March 2018 and had several wins in the 2018 year-end awards. Back Door is the lead track of their album In Life that was released on 14th September 2020. 3RACHA, the composing team  ( members Bang Chan, Changbin and Han) wrote it and produced it. The song charted on the Billboard World Song Sales chart for 5 weeks, peaking at no. 2. Through this fun song, Stray Kids are inviting you to join them for even more excitement. Will you pass through the ‘Back Door’ and join their fandom?

5) 'LibidO' by OnlyOneOf

“I feel like we’re walking on shallow water
There’s nothing around
And we keep walking through the entire night”

OnlyOneOf made its debut on 28th May 2019. These idols are unique because they teach art history through their music. The title song of their EP Instinct Part.1, libidO, was released on 8th April 2021. In an interview with PRESSREELS, the members said:

We tried to express the most primitive part of a human being through music. These subjects are always controversial, whether it is aesthetics or obscenity, but we boldly broke the taboo and challenged it.

The band faced prejudice because of the controversial lyrics and choreography. Music managers forced them to change their live presentations in order for them to be more 'decent'. They were also praised for challenging taboos and addressing suggestive topics that K-pop idols usually avoid. If you are into deep and artistic concepts and music, OnlyOneOf is definitely the perfect band for you to check out.
