5 facts about Twice that will blow your mind!

Did you know that TWICE was originally going to be a 7 member group? The group has some interesting facts from their original debut lineup backstory to the member's unique birthday tradition that will definitely pique your interest in the group and make you want to learn more about them. Find out more below!

  • Twice is a South Korean girl group formed through the survival show 'Sixteen' under JYP Entertainment in 2015.
  • The nine members of the group are Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu.
  • Five members of the group are Korean, while the rest of them are foreigners. 
  • It is estimated that Twice has a net worth of approximately $35 million.

1) Twice originally had seven members

Like many other Kpop groups today, the band also originates from a reality competition show. The 2015 series 'Sixteen' had JYP Entertainment trainees compete for a chance in the group's final lineup. After numerous challenges testing the trainee's singing, dancing, rapping skills, and individual charms, nine members were selected. Momo and Tzuyu almost didn't make the cut, but they were brought back as JYP couldn't Tzuyu's massive fan love and Momo's contribution to the group.

2) Some members almost debuted in a group called SIXMIX

JYP Entertainment planned to debut Nayeon, Jihyo, Sana, and Jeongyeon in a different girl group called SIXMIX. The group was set to debut in 2014, but due to some lineup members withdrawing from the group, JYP Entertainment canceled the whole plan. After waiting for a year the members eventually joined SIXTEEN. We are pleased about how things turned out. It is not possible to think of TWICE without all of the nine members!

3) There have been exam questions about TWICE

A question about TWICE's song 'TT' appeared in an exam paper featuring an adorable picture of Dahyun dressed in her bunny costume. Due to Tzuyu's popularity in Taiwan, she has made it to multiple question sets in schools. The group has also been featured in music textbooks in Korea.

4) On-Screen appearances before their debut

Even when the members were trainees, they were gaining and polishing their on-screen skills. The girls have been noticed in music videos of other JYP Entertainment artists. Chaeyoung and Tzuyu made appearances in Miss A's 'Only You'. Dahyun played a part in GOT7's 'Stop Stop It' while Jeongyeon and Nayeon showed up in Miss A's 'Only You'. Dahyun played a part in GOT7's 'Stop Stop It' while Jeongyeon and Nayeon showed up in GOT7's 'Girls Girls Girls'.

5) The group has a unique birthday tradition

Rather than gifts, the members give each other special birthday kisses on birthdays! On a show, Chaeyoung explained the tradition, 'When a fan asked Tzuyu what she wanted for her birthday, she said she wanted kisses from her fellow members. That's how it started. But she actually meant love, not kisses.' That's how the birthday kisses tradition came into being!
