2020's virtual Juneteenth potluck

This year Juneteenth celebration was done virtually. In the midst of Black Lives Matter protests and COVID-19 protocol, black food bloggers decided to share their recipes for the black holiday that originated in Texas in 1980.

  • Juneteenth can also be referred to as the Black Fourth of July. It commemorates the end of slavery and celebrates African Americans' achievements and culture.
  • The online celebration is called the 2020 Juneteenth Cookout Takeover and many cooked their meals live through Instagram or YouTube.
  • The initiative targets black heritage but it may also inspire others to learn about the importance of this long celebrated holiday for black community.
  • Check out the video to see the recipes they shared.
