Val Kilmer's on screen comeback after having throat cancer

The 60-year-old actor is soon to release his latest film, Paydirt, after struggling with cancer. Val kilmer talks about the difficulties he had to overcome and his new film below.

  • In 2015 Kilmer was in the hospital for what was thought to be cancer.
  • Later it was revealed that the actor battled cancer during two years and underwent a tracheotomy.
  • Today Kilmer is learner to communicate in a different way.

Paydirt is set to premiere on August 7. The movie tells the story of a man on parole who searches for a buried bag of cash that was stolen years ago from a DEA bust gone bad. Kilmer spoke about his big screen comeback on Good Morning America Monday, August 3. The films is very important to him since it's the first time he will be sharing the screen with his daughter Mercedes. Paydirt also marks his 28-year-old daughter's film debut.

"I was just proud like her graduation day," he said about his daughter's debut role. Mercedes plays the daughter of his father's character "Playing his daughter was so trippy and perfect," she said.

Despite his battle with cancer and the procedure on his trachea to help him breathe better, the Top Gun actor has kept himself busy. The comeback of his 1986 character Iceman was set to be released in the new Top Gun: Maverick film alongside co-star Tom Cruise this year. Due to the pandemic it was held back and will premiere on July 2nd, 2021.
