Singers Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga both have nine nominations for the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards which will be held in August. Check out more nominated artists in the video below.
This year the VMA's introduce new categories as a result of the coronavirus pandemic lockdown. The new categories are "Best Music Video From Home" and "Best Quarantine Performance." "Rain on me" was released on May 22nd and it immediately became a hit. "It's two women having a conversation about how to keep going and how to be grateful for what you do" said Gaga about the creative process of the song.
The song talks about submitting yourself to devastation. Gaga was "ashamed" at first to be friends with Grande. They both had similar experiences as public figures, but Gaga said she didn't want to open up to her fellow singer as to not throw all her negativity on Grande. "Then she came up to me and said "you're hiding", and I said "yeah, you're right, I'm absolutely hiding", and that's where our friendship blossomed".
Lady Gaga posted for Ariana Grande's birthday on June 26th.
