The Beatles drummer Ringo Starr's 80th birthday celebration

The musician has an annual tradition since 2008 of celebrating his birthday with a huge performance from him and his musician friends. This year due to COVID-19 the celebration was done a bit differently. Check out the drummer's birthday bash in the video!

  • The tradition started in 2008 when he celebrated his birthday at the Hard Rock in Chicago with 100 people.
  • This year's celebration was canceled due to the pandemic, but Starr put on a virtual charity concert on YouTube. You can enjoy the concert in the video below!

The charity concert was to benefit Black Lives Matter, The David Lynch Foundation, MusiCares and WaterAid.  Several artists participated in the concert among them was Paul McCartney, Ben Harper and Sheryl Crow.

"I've asked several of my friends to either send me footage from a show they've done and I'm using some of mine from the All-Starrs [his band] last year and I'll be there introducing".

The 80-year-old ex Beatle has eight grandchildren and a great-grandson. Starr is thankful for his family and appreciates life. He says he's playing more now than ever. "We're in a great business because we don't have to retire; we can just go on as long as we can go on. And I plan to go on a lot longer than 80" said the musician.

Ringo plans on doing music for many more years!
