The appointment to see the most democratic awards in the industry is November 5 at 9pm. The thing is that the PCA's are the only ones in which the audience chooses all the winners. Well almost all, Icon awards are chosen beforehand. This year a black man, a black woman and a Latino woman were chosen. Keep reading to meet the three diverse icons of 2020.
Looking back at the Icon Awards from past editions of the People's Choice, we realized that this is the first time that all three have been awarded to minority members.
Last year the winners were women, but all white.
Pink took home the Champion Award while actress Jennifer Aniston was honored with Icon for lifetime achievement.
Finally, Gwen Stefani won the Fashion Icon award.
Let's take a look at this year's winners!
1. Tyler Perry.
The Champion Award is going to be given to this actor, director, producer and philanthropist.
Why? For all his achievements in this difficult year and for having been an extremely active figure in helping families hit by the pandemic.
In addition, this 51-year-old actor managed to safely start the filming of Camp Quarantine thus creating many jobs in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic.
2. Jennifer Lopez.
The famous actress, singer and dancer of Latin descent will receive the Icon Award for her career.
From being Jenny from the block, she became one of the most influential women in the entertainment industry and a great representative for the Latino community in the United States.
3. Tracee Ellis Ross.
The 47-year-old actress, singer, model and CEO was chosen as the Fashion Icon of 2020.
Her great style for fashion and her closeness to it since her beginnings as a model in the 90s made her worthy of this honor.
In addition, the Black-ish actress is a great influence and inspiration for all her followers, motivating them with her achievements to believe in themselves.
Having reviewed the honorees this year as icons of the PCA's, we came to the conclusion that the organizers want to send a message of union and the will to end the social and racial divisions in our nation.
Let's make this a habit!
