Miley Cyrus says her vocal cords surgery was a blessing

The country pop singer revealed during a podcast for Variety's "Big Ticket" that she has been sober for more than six months after she underwent a vocal cords surgery at the end of 2019. Check out the interview below.

  • The American singer admits that being sober is a challenge but says "you can call me a lot of things but I know that I'm fun".
  • She feels great and says she wakes up feeling %100 all the time.
  • The singer also said that her surgery prepared her for the "stillness and quietness" of the pandemic.

Cyrus had a big vocal surgery in November and wasn't allowed to talk for 4 weeks. She had to write everything down on a white board and said that it really helped her to just be still and quiet. "It's been really important for me over the last year living a sober lifestyle, because I really wanted to polish up my craft".

Miley Cyrus said her surgery was a blessing

The young star did a lot of thinking during her post surgery. She started thinking about her mother and father and the history behind them. Her mom was adopted and Cyrus says she inherited the feeling of abandonment and wanting to prove you're valuable. Her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, also a famous country singer, had to raise himself because his parents got divorced when he was 3-years-old. "So just going through that and asking, 'Why am I the way that I am?' By understanding the past, we understand the present and the future much more clearly. I think therapy is great."
