Jennifer Hudson portrays Aretha Franklin in biopic

The actress and singer rose to fame in 2004 during the third season of American Idol. Hudson did not win the reality TV show but went on to acting in the film Dreamgirls. Today she is a renown singer with a net worth $25 million dollars. And will portray the legendary Aretha Franklin in the biopic "Respect". Take a look at the trailer below.

  • The movie also stars Mary J. Blige, Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Queen Latifah and Tate Donovan among others. It is directed by Liesl Tommy.
  • The legendary singer was also a civil rights activist.
  • As a singer she didn't achieve recognition right away, but by the end of 60s everybody knew her as the "Queen of Soul".

The film was originally scheduled to be released in August but due to coronavirus it has been moved to December 2020. It has been in production for a few years. Franklin herself was involved in the movie until her death in August 2018. It wasn't until September 2019 that they started shooting and wrapped by February 2020.
