Instagram arrives with perfect timing during TikTok’s fall

As we mentioned before, TikTok has been banned from several government agencies in the United States and Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo is thinking in banning the app in the country for security reason. India already banned it under allegations that the information goes directly to the Chinese Government. Now, is Instagram’s time to take over the U.S. market.

  • In the industry of mobile apps, the problems of one company might be the solution to another. This is happening right now with Instagram and TikTok.
  • In the United States there are over 60 million users (almost 17% of the total population!).
  • The app has been already banned by several government agencies like the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Homeland Security and several devices from the army and the navy.

Instagram presented their new feature called Reels, in an attempt to fill the void possibly left by TikTok. It's the same story again with Snapchat, who was dominating the market until Instagram launched their feature Stories. Nowadays, Instagram is worth $102 billion, and it's used by 1 billion people around the world (1/7 of the worldwide population). Instagram is also worth as much as 5 times more than Snapchat and Twitter.

Their new function will basically be the same as the Chinese app, allowing users to share 15-second videos with borrowed audio and with a ranking system. They launched it already in India, where TikTok was banned and will be coming soon to the United States. Talk about business strategies!
