Dirty Dancing

Iconic Hollywood film Dirty Dancing is getting a sequel

The romantic 1987 Hollywood drama starred late actor Patrick Swayze, who died in 2009 of pancreatic cancer and actress Jennifer Grey. Keep reading to learn more on the new flick.

  • Grey portrays Frances "Baby" Houseman, a young woman who falls in love with a dance instructor Johnny Castle, played by Patrick Swayze.
  •  The song from the film "(I've Had) The Time of My Life", won both the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Song and a Grammy for best duet.
  • Fun fact: the film was based on the screenwriter Eleanor Bergstein's own childhood.

Lionsgate Studio CEO Jon Feltheimer said "It will be exactly the kind of romantic, nostalgic movie that the franchise's fans have been waiting for and that have made it the biggest-selling library title in the company's history."

Jennifer Grey will not only star in the sequel, she will be executive producing it as well. Grey is no rookie when it comes to dancing. The actress was a contestant on season 11 of Dancing With the Stars in 2010. She was partnered with professional dancer Derek Hough, and they won the competition.

The dance scene in the film became one of the most popular dances scenes ever
