The actress played orthopedic surgeon Dr. Callie Torres on the show, and she was also a part of the LGBTQ community. Ramirez, who turns 45 on August 31st portrayed Torres for a decade on the medical drama.
On Friday, August 28th the star posted on her Instagram account "New profile pic. In me is the capacity to be Girlish boy, Boyish girl, Boyish boy, Girlish girl, All, Neither." Black transgender drag queen known as Miss Peppermint, from "Rupaul's Drag Race," Season 9 showed support for Ramirez by saying she loves her "with every fiber" and that "I'm just SO PROUD. I'm in tears."
In 2016, Ramirez left Grey's Anatomy, saying "I'm deeply grateful to have spent the last 10 years with my family at 'Grey’s Anatomy' and ABC." Ramirez came out publicly while on the show. At first, she was scared of portraying a gay character and thought it would hurt her career, but far from it, she has received plenty of support.
