"I drank relatively normally for a long time. What happened was that I started drinking more and more when my marriage was falling apart" revealed the actor during an interview with The New York Times. In the same interview he revealed he has a compulsive behavior and found himself trapped in a cycle.
Although Garner and Affleck decided to separate in 2015, the actress still wanted to make sure that Affleck was ok before their divorce was made official. That's the reason why they officially divorced two years later. Garner wanted to make sure the father of her children was %100 clean before going forward and also didn't want to add any more stress on Affleck.
The Hollywood director still struggles with the shame he feels over breaking up his family. "The biggest regret of my life is this divorce." The pair might be divorced, but they make a great duo at co-parenting. "When you have children with somebody you’re connected to them forever," Affleck told People. "And I’m very lucky she is the mother of my children." He is very grateful for Jen's support and respects her greatly.
