Oscar-winning actress from South Africa, Charlize Theron, realized in 2015 that she was raising a transgender child. The African star has been a role model regarding LGBTQ rights and a visible supporter face in the movement against discrimination. Read below for more information.

  • At the time Jackson was 3 years old when she looked at her mother and said: "I am not a boy!" From that moment on Theron started raising a girl.
  • The South African born actress and producer wants to break the patterns she experienced in South Africa while growing up.
  • Theron gained international acclaim with the 1997 film The Devil's Advocate.
  • As of 2019 she is one of the world's highest paid actresses.

"I grew up in a country where people lived with half-truths and lies and whispers and nobody said anything outright" said the actress about where she grew up in South Africa. Fortunately she was raised to be the exact opposite and that is what she is trying to instill on her daughters.

Theron doesn't want to push her ancestry on her two little girls. They should be exactly who they want to be and "it's not for me to decide" said the actress. She says that if you speak the truth you're comfortable with, "nothing negative can come from that".

In opposition to her parent, who was absent and alcoholic, Charlize tries to be there for her kids every time.  "My job as a parent is to celebrate them and to love them and to make sure that they have everything they need". The liberty and education and such a loving mother those children have is a privilege every one of us should be entitled to, and we are certainly sure they will appreciate when they grow up.
