Oscar-winning actress from South Africa, Charlize Theron, realized in 2015 that she was raising a transgender child. In that moment, she knew they had something special going on and decided to support her 100%. The African star has been a role model regarding LGBTQ rights and a visible supporter face in the movement against discrimination. Read below for more information.
"I grew up in a country where people lived with half-truths and lies and whispers and nobody said anything outright" said the actress about where she grew up in South Africa. Fortunately she was raised to be the exact opposite and that is what she is trying to instill on her daughters.
Theron doesn't want to push her ancestry on her two little girls. They should be exactly who they want to be and "it's not for me to decide" said the actress. She says that if you speak the truth you're comfortable with, "nothing negative can come from that".
In opposition to her parent, who was absent and alcoholic, Charlize tries to be there for her kids every time. "My job as a parent is to celebrate them and to love them and to make sure that they have everything they need". The liberty and education and such a loving mother those children have is a privilege every one of us should be entitled to, and we are certainly sure they will appreciate when they grow up.
