Her role in the movie
Maria Bakalova plays Tutar in the Borat Subsequent Movie. Tutar, is Borat's daughter, who isn't aware of some women rights, as the fact that women can read, drive or masturbate like any man.
“It’s a movie of how a girl can grow up and should grow up,” Maria said about Borat 2. “How people can treat you as not equal because you’re a woman and what kind of options you have,” she explained.
Luckily, Maria was there to show all this injustices on the screen and make people more aware about them.
How to control laughing
Borat is a hilarious movie, and Sacha Baron Cohen makes us laugh all the time, and so he does with Maria during the filming of the scenes. She admitted that it was incredibly challenging to keep a straight face at the beginning.
"When Sacha starts doing his thing, and you’re right next to him, he has this super serious face. I have to act like it’s the most normal thing ever. But he’s so funny" she explained.
Nevertheless, as Baron Cohen has tons of experience in doing this, he taught Bakalova how to control it. "He taught me a trick to cross my fingers, to put pressure on my fingers, to stop laughing," Maria said during the interview.
The Bulgarian actress definitely learned the lesson, and she plays an excellent role in the whole movie giving life to Tutar who is learning about being a strong woman in a patriarchal society.
She makes us laugh during the whole film thanks to the advice of the experienced Cohen, and she knows how to hold herself even when he is not in the scene with her. Cheers, Maria! You can watch the movie trailer here:
