We celebrate Jake Gyllenhaal’s first nomination for the Tony Awards. Broadway’s season was cut short due to the pandemic. However, Gyllenhaal is really worthy of this recognition of his amazing talent. Keep reading as we reveal the actor’s moving statement!
Jake Gyllenhaal received a triple nomination for the Tony Awards, as leading actor in the “Sea Wall/A Life” and as its producer as well as the show “Slave Play.”
“I’m so deeply moved.” Gyllenhaal said that he is deeply honored to be nominated, but also recognizes what an uncertain time this is for the theater world, and the world at large.
So he encouraged everyone first to vote and then, if people are able, donate to The Actors Fund in support of the many amazing people whose livelihoods depend on live theater.
Being without theater right now has left a huge void in anyone who cherishes the communal experience of artists coming together to tell a story in front of a live audience.
The actor revealed that he misses the incredible work of the theater community, and he cannot wait to be back on stage!
