Athena, protester in portland

Who is Athena, the American hero who was seen in Portland?

After a mystery woman wearing nothing but a mask surprised Portland police during racism protests, she became a national symbol and nobody knew her identity until now. She talked publicly for the first time. Check the video below!

  • The press called her Athena in relation to the Greek goddess warrior.
  • Some even called her Lady Godiva, a British myth. The woman supposedly asked the governor of Coventry, England, to lower the taxes on the poor people while riding her horse wearing absolutely nothing.
  • Nathan Howard, a Reuters' photographer, captured amazing photos that reflect the moment where the battle was stopped. It was like an angel in the middle of hell, surrounded by gas and pepper spray.

After the amazed American people commented things like "she is the hero we need right now" and "how wounded is our country that we are throwing gas to a harmless woman", the story behind her is revealed. Athena still wishes to be anonymous. The woman believes that her symbolic gestures and poses are more important than her fame.

What can we know about the protester? Feminist, strong and courageous. It is almost impossible that a woman wearing nothing but a mask can harm anyone, less a group of twenty armed police forces that were sent to stop the protests. President Donald Trump also helped by sending federal agents to the city.

Nathan Howard, a Reuters' photographer, captured amazing photos that reflect the moment where the battle was stopped. It was like an angel in the middle of hell, surrounded by gas and pepper spray. In some pictures, the details of blood in her legs are even more shocking. The woman did ballet poses and until now, nobody could confirm her identity. Another photographer, Dave Killen, mentioned "everybody was in shock and it was like the world stopped for a minute".
