BTS is set to perform at the 2021 Grammys on Sunday, March 14th! Last year in 2020 the K-pop group received its first-ever Grammy nomination and their fans expressed extreme excitement on social media. Alongside them, a bunch of other artists such as Justin Bieber, Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, and Taylor Swift was nominated as well. Curious to see who BTS is up against at the 63rd Grammys? Scroll down to find out!

BTS receives its first Grammy nomination

The nominations for the Grammys were announced on November 24th, 2020. They received over 23,000 submissions across 84 categories. BTS was one of the lucky ones to be chosen. Their song ‘Dynamite’ was nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. This is the first time a K-pop group has gotten a Grammys nomination.

But who is their competition?

However, BTS is up against some of the biggest acts in the music industry. Their competitors are Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, JBalvin, and Taylor Swift. Not to mention that Taylor Swift has the best-selling album, 'Folklore', in the US in 2020. We guess Taylor Swift will give BTS a tough competition.

Why did it take so long for the band to receive a nomination?

This nomination was long overdue for the biggest boyband in the world. The American music industry is known to be xenophobic and for its unfair treatment of artists of color. Their fans believe they were snubbed in other categories. We believe the same, after all, they are the chart-toppers of 2020.

We’re happy they at least received a nomination though! So congratulations BTS, good luck and we hope you win! Who do you think deserves to win? Let us know in the comments below!
