Twitter-gate: 17-year-old hacker arrested in Tampa, Florida

The mastermind behind the cyberattack that affected Twitter shares and its reputation around the world, was only a teenager. Graham Ivan Clark was the mastermind of the hacking, but he had several accomplices. More information, next.

  • The man is charged with almost 30 charges that include fraud and identity theft.
  • Young hackers got into the personal DM’s and accounts of companies like Uber, Apple and Tesla to their CEO’s personal accounts including Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos.
  • Other celebrities like Wiz Khalifa, Kanye West and former United States President, Barack Obama have been hacked as well.

What is the first image that comes to mind when you think about a hacker? A guy in his mom’s garage with lights off and several computer monitors with crazy numbers around him right? Well, that isn't far from what has happened. The only difference? This kid lived alone in a house in Tampa, Florida.

FBI got their best cyber-attack employees to work on the case (some of them were hackers that reduce their sentence by working with the authorities) and know how to enter this crazy Internet world.

The attack was designed using social engineering. What is that? A technique criminals use to manipulate certain people who have access to the secrets of companies, "fishing" information where they can later hack into the systems. Now you know if your "cousin from Nigeria" wants you to give him your credit card info for "your inheritance", be aware, they could be your next door neighbor!
