After the cyberattack on the most important Twitter accounts in the world, the FBI has launched an investigation because this could be a national security threat. Companies like Uber, Apple and Tesla to their CEO’s personal accounts including Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and other celebrities like Wiz Khalifa, Kanye West and former United States President, Barack Obama have been hacked.
The greatest attack on the preferred social media of the United States President, Donald Trump, could pose a national security threat.
Many government agencies use Twitter to inform the citizens with updates and news. One of the theories managed until now, is that a high-ranking Twitter employee gave the hackers access to the tools.
Neil Jenkins, director for the Cyber Threat Alliance told the media "Social media platforms are a key player to the functioning of our country". New York Attorney General Letitia James opened a case concerning Twitter and asked for more transparency because otherwise it could "harm public debate".
