Kidnaps are on the rise in the Philippines

Online gaming in the Philippines has increased and with it so has criminality. The industry caters 90% to Chinese nationals who end up in debt with the casinos.

  • Those in debt are approached by loan sharks who offer money. Once they fail to pay back the loan they are kidnapped and their family back home are asked to pay ransom that ranges between $9,800 to $11,500 dollars.
  • China is putting pressure on the Philippines to ban POGO's. The Philippines said they would suspend the issue of new licenses, but they said nothing about the ban.
