The thick layer of dust originated in Africa has already spread thousands of miles. It's currently making its way over the Atlantic Ocean and it's projected to reach the Caribbean any time. It could even reach the Gulf Coast in less than a week.
The dust could cause ocean bacteria to grow and if the concentration of bacteria is high enough it could reduce the quality of the air. However, the dust itself is harmless and causes amazingly colorful sunsets.
NASA predicts the dust could make it to Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Haiti.
As the dust cloud gets closer hot, dry desert air can be sensed. The good news is this could possibly cancel out any thunderstorm developments for July.
