The anonymous artist and political activist known as Banksy spoke about the protests in Bristol on Sunday June 7th where Black Lives Matter protestors pulled down the bronze statue of Edward Colston. The act was cheered by the demonstrators but also had its detractors. Colston was a philanthropist, but he was also a slave trader.
Banksy posted on his Instagram the solution to the controversial dilemma. A statue that commemorates the act itself.
The statue dates back to 1895 and there are several city landmarks that have Colston's name. However, the figure has recently come into scrutiny and there have been many petitions to take down the statue.
Famous artist, Banksy, who is thought to be from Bristol, posted the solution on his Instagram. He proposes a statue that commemorates the act itself. This way everybody is happy.
